Albums Of The Week: Various Artists | Dan Sartain Vs. The World (Is Gonna Break Your Little Heart)

Friends & peers pay their respects to the late garage-rocker with a tribute album.

THE EDITED PRESS RELEASE: “Friends and family of late Alabama garage-rocker Dan Sartain are proud to announce the release of Dan Sartain Vs. The World (Is Gonna Break Your Little Heart) as a digital exclusive on Bandcamp. All artists graciously donated their time and recordings for the album, with all proceeds going towards Dan’s daughter Audrey’s trust fund.

Sartain was a prolific whirlwind of a musician who hopped genres as often as people changed their socks. The catalog of music he left behind is ripe with lyrical profoundness, goofy humor and dripping with cool. His impact on the many musicians who knew or played with him led to the creation of this tribute album which contains covers of many of Dan’s best songs.

The album opens with an unreleased track from the Sartain vault titled Lovin’ Every Minute Of It, which sounds as urgent and daring as any track from his early releases and is the sound of a true musician doing what he loves. Rock And Roll Hall of Famer Jane Wiedlin revisits her and Dan’s poppy punk quickfire duet, taking on lead vocals on Now Now Now. San Diego band Mrs Magician tackle the beautiful anthem that is The World Is Gonna Break Your Little Heart with great aplomb. British songwriter David Ford turns Ruby Carol into a booze-soaked saloon ode to love. Elsewhere you can find covers from former bandmates, tour buddies and friends such as Ben Blackwell, Plate Six, Goldettes, Onelinedrawing and many more great acts.”
