Classic Album Review: Various Artists | Jackass: The Movie Soundtrack

The self-abusive pranksters' movie soundtrack is better than a kick in the head.

This came out in 2002 – or at least that’s when I got it. Here’s what I said about it back then (with some minor editing):

It’s been a while since I read the Bible, but I’m pretty sure there must be something in there that says, “Lo and verily, when Jackass, a movie about grown men who sticketh Hot Wheels cars up their butts and get themselves X-rayed for fun, maketh $30 million at the box office, it is a sign the Apocalypse is nigh.”

Or maybe it’s just proof that criticism is deader than the mind of the average Jackass viewer. Either way, I didn’t get this far without learning that if you can’t beat ’em, join ’em. To their credit, thankfully, the Jackassers make it pretty easy with this superior soundtrack. Along with a killer slate of punk and metal gems — The RezillosSomebody’s Gonna Get Their Head Kicked In, The Minutemen’s Corona, Sahara Notnights Alright, Alright, Andrew W.K.’s We Want Fun and The Detroit CobrasCha Cha Twist, to name a few — you get a multi-media disc of trailers, clips, music videos, wrap-party antics and footage of a male exotic dancer accosting Tokyo pedestrians. I smell a sequel. At least, we hope that’s a sequel I smell.
