Baker And Cas Play It Sweet And Lowdown With My Sug

Brooklyn’s Emmanuel Casablanca & Kelli Baker join forces on some classic sounds.

Baker and Cas rock it old-school on their new single and visualizer video My Sug — showcasing today on Tinnitist.

Featuring a powerhouse collaboration from the Brooklyn duo of Emmanuel Casablanca and Kelli Baker, My Sug — the opening song from their debut album Hooligans — immediately hooks the listener with its harmonica and chugging rock rhythm. The lyrics of the song are as catchy as the groove:

“My sugar don’t like it when I walk in the door too late
My sugar don’t like it when I walk in the door too late
Sug don’t got to say a word, I can tell by looking at her face.”

My Sug was tasked to be based on positive outlooks of our relationship, or rather just regular relationship milestones,” says Casablanca, a multi-instrumentalist, singer, songwriter, painter and actor who released his debut LP, Blood On My Hands, in 2022. The album featured many notable musicians including Grammy nominee Eric Gales, renowned guitarist Paul Gilbert and Blues Music Award Winner Albert Castiglia.

Casablanca has worked with an array of A-list performers over the course of his career, including producer Bill Laswell, drummer Daxx Nielsen and bassist Doug Wimbish of Living Colour. Meanwhile, his musical cohort Baker brings a song like no other. Born and raised in Phoenix, she appears consistently at N.Y.C. music houses such as The Bitter End and The Cutting Room. Meeting at the Road to Memphis Blues Challenge in 2022, the pair knew immediately they were a musical match. Both featuring powerhouse vocals, commanding stage presence, and stylistic swagger, they conspired to work together on what would eventually manifest into Hooligans.
