Classic Album Review: Various Artists | Intercontinental Pop Exchange Vol. 1 & 2

Winnipeg pop label Endearing pairs up local mainstays with international acts.

This came out in 2003 – or at least that’s when I got it. Here’s what I said about it back then (with some minor editing):

HOME BASE: Here, there and everywhere.
GENRE: Matches made in pop heaven.
REVIEW: Double your pleasure with this new split-EP series from Winnipeg pop label Endearing that pairs up local mainstays with international acts. Vol. 1 has eight cuts equally divided between the scrappy, GBVish grit of New Hampshire’s Wolf Colonel and the dreamy, Ben Foldsian jangle of Winnipeg’s Paperbacks. Vol. 2 is a six-track affair with three slices of sparkling pixie-pop from locals Paper Moon and three cuts of strummy warmth from Sweden’s Leslies, who sound more like Crowded House than Crowded House does these days. Either one of these discs is a nice way to help out some old friends — and meet a few new ones.
