This came out in 2003 – or at least that’s when I got it. Here’s what I said about it back then (with some minor editing):
The Ramones, Television, Blondie, Talking Heads, Johnny Thunders and the Heartbreakers — the list of bands that played New York’s legendary CBGB back in the day is impressive, to say the least.
What would be more impressive: If any of them were on Punk From the Bowery, a live compilation DVD recorded at the (in)famous Lower East Side haunt. Still, what is here is also impressive — provided you’re a fan of New York Hardcore. Punk From the Bowery delivers 100 minutes of footage from modern-day punk heroes like Agnostic Front, Cro-Mags, Madball, Adrenaline OD and Poison Idea, along with recent appearances by oldsters like U.K. Subs and The Vibrators. Shot from a video camera in the club’s ceiling, it’s like having the best seat in the house — and not having to visit the bar’s notoriously horrifying bathroom.
