Classic Album Review: Sahara Hotnights | C’mon Let’s Pretend Reissue

The Swedish punks' less-polished debut puts melody slightly ahead of mayhem.

This came out in 2003 – or at least that’s when I got it. Here’s what I said about it back then (with some minor editing):

THE ORIGINAL RELEASE DATE: 1999.

THE BACK STORY: Hard-rocking Swedish punks Sahara Hotnights exploded onto the scene with last year’s powerful Jennie Bomb. Now, here comes their earlier debut album, a less-polished affair with slightly slower songs and a little more emphasis on melody than mayhem.

THE GOODIES: While they don’t pack the same sucker punch as their later work, cuts like the anthemic Push On Some More, the twangy Drive Dead Slow and the thumping Impressed By Me still deliver the goods.

THE BONUS: Now you have something to tide you over until their next album.
