Marc Jordan Surveys America En Route To The Rio Grande

The singer-songwriter shares a subtle, stirring and sophisticated jazz-pop gem.

Marc Jordan addresses the state of the American union in the lyric vocal for his stirring, spacious and sophisticated piano ballad Rio Grande — showcasing today on Tinnitist.

The heartfelt emotional centerpiece of the American-born Canadian singer-songwriter’s latest album Waiting For The Sun To Rise, Rio Grande is a sweeping jazz-pop gem which artfully blends sociopolitical commentary about America’s loss of innocence with personal yearning. Featuring trumpet great Randy Brecker and piano by co-producer Lou Pomanti, the song was co-written with Steven MacKinnon from the Art Of Time ensemble.

Delivered with the voice of experience, the reflective lyrics marvel at how time passes quickly while many things stay the same in our modern world — including (unfortunately) gun violence, environmental disaster, and a sense of impending doom over the lack of clear solutions. Thanfkfully, Jordan’s combination of optimism and nostalgia to keep us sustained with glimpses of brighter daylight ahead. Subtle yet powerful, it is a triumphant recording from a world-class artist performing at the peak of his skills.

Jordan has won Juno and Genie awards, and earned his latest Juno nomination in 2019 for his last album Both Sides. He is married to singer-songwriter Amy Sky, and in 2022, the duo recorded the Juno-nominated album of duets He Sang She Sang.
