This came out in 2003 – or at least that’s when I got it. Here’s what I said about it back then (with some minor editing):
Didja ever notice that you don’t really see that many live country albums? Ever wonder why that is? Well, maybe this concert recording from George Strait will help clear it up.
For The Last Time: Live From the Astrodome is one of those live albums that makes you wonder why the artist even bothered going to the trouble of hiring the recording truck. Or if they even really did — from honkytonkers like The Fireman to sappy ballads like Run, most of these 16 cuts are such note-perfect renditions they could very well have just tacked some crowd noise onto the end of the studio cuts. The absence of Alan Jackson in Murder On Music Row — and the presence of U.S. President George Bush nattering between songs — are about the only proof Strait was even really at the Astrodome in the first place. Or for the last time.
