Classic Album Review: Antigravity Project | Annuit Corruptus

The prog-rock foursome offer a concept-album compendium of conspiracy theories.

This came out in 2004 – or at least that’s when I got it. Here’s what I said about it back then (with some minor editing):

 


WHERE YOU’LL FIND THEM: At the centre of a mystery wrapped in a riddle inside an enigma.

FILE UNDER: A saucerful of secrets.

LOWDOWN: When it comes to paranoia, Fox Mulder has got nothing on Antigravity Project. The prog-rock foursome’s latest disc Annuit Corruptus is nothing short of a concept-album compendium of conspiracy theories, with brainiac tracks that examine UFO coverups, Orwellian fascism and The Illuminati while namechecking the likes of Hegel and Virgil. Musically, meanwhile, the boys cast an equally wide and ambitious net, painstakingly crafting artfully epic tracks that bridge the technical wizardry of Yes or King Crimson with the earthy grooves, genre-hopping experimentation and wry vocals of early ’70s Frank Zappa. It’s almost enough to make you wonder whether they’re really from this planet …
