Classic Album Review: Jennifer Love Hewitt | BareNaked

Despite its provocative title, the Hollywood star's album is often surprisingly decent.

This came out in 2002 – or at least that’s when I got it. Here’s what I said about it back then (with some minor editing):

Give Jennifer Love Hewitt credit: She was doing teen-pop before Britney Spears. And doing it better.

Here, the 23-year-old Hollywood star — who arguably sings better than she acts — grows up a tad, enlisting Meredith Brooks (Bitch) to co-write and produce a set of soulful, rockier fare that’s closer to Sheryl Crow than Christina Aguilera. Granted, Janis Joplin she ain’t (especially not on an ill-advised cover of Me and Bobby McGee). But BareNaked — despite its exploitive title and cover — is often surprisingly decent.
