The Blues Keep Knockin’ At Dalannah’s Door

The Vancouver matriarch celebrates her career with an anthology — & a new single.

Dalannah adds another milestone to her extraordinary career with her silky new single and live video Blues Keep Knockin’ — showcasing today on Tinnitist.

The sorrowful slow-burner is the new original song from her new album In My Own Words, an anthology of her greatest hits during her 15-year stint on Quest Records. Listeners will experience 75 minutes of emotionally resonant music in honour of Dalannah’s 75 years of life well lived. Blues Keep Knockin’ — a bonus track that rounds off the outstanding collection — is a testament to her love of life and gift of melody.

The track is a tune that reflects on the profound sadness felt when experiencing a significant loss. Dalannah touches on how trauma affects our soul, saying, “when loss becomes your companion, perhaps for life …That old devil blues stays by my side.”

For Dalannah’s 76th birthday, Quest Records produced a live show in Vancouver to mark the release of In My Own Words. The intimate venue allowed Dalannah to shine alongside accomplished and world-class artists, including pianist Michael Creber (k.d. lang, Andrea Bocelli), clarinet player Tom Keenlyside (Dizzy Gillespie, Aerosmith) and more.

Dalannah started her career in 1965, working the music circuit with all-girl band The Feminine Touch, who opened for The Monkees and toured with The Guess Who. In addition to her music, Dalannah Gail Bowen has been a lifelong advocate for human rights, with a generosity that extends to countless charitable organizations. She has received the key to the city of Vancouver, wher Dec. 11 was proclaimed Dalannah Gail Bowen Day by the mayor and council.
