Albums Of The Week: The Dream Syndicate | What Can I Say? No Regrets... Out Of The Grey + Live, Demos & Outtakes

After 35 tears, singer-guitarist Steve Wynn and his veteran L.A. alt-rockers expand their third studio album with a dynamite live concert, demos and left-field covers.

THE EDITED PRESS RELEASE:The Dream Syndicate’s 1986 album is back on CD for the first time in 24 years. Hidden inside of Out Of The Grey are some of Steve Wynn’s strongest songs. Slide Away is delightful pop, Now I Ride Alone is moody and intense like the hardboiled typewriting of novelists Jim Thompson, Ross MacDonald and James Cain. The epic Boston imagines the era in which Van Morrison was holed up in that city circa 1967-’68 writing the songs that comprised Astral Weeks. And 50 in a 25 Zone is a vehicle for a band-driven slow-burn groove.

The package compiles 51 songs spread across three CDs, including a previously unreleased live album and many unreleased demos and outtakes. The wealth of unreleased material includes a never-before-heard July 1985 live performance which has a balls-to-the-wall energy, and a set list of songs so fresh the band hadn’t even recorded them in the studio yet. In addition, you’ll hear early demos of several Out Of The Grey songs that deliver the raw energy of the live show. As a bonus, the set even includes covers of classics by Pink Floyd, Cream, Santana, Green on Red, Alice Cooper, The Temptations and Dolly Parton.

Deliciously remastered with new liner notes from band historian Pat Thomas, The deluxe reissue also features interviews with Wynn, Mark Walton, Paul Cutler and Dennis Duck, plus plenty of rare photos. In other words, you need this!
