For those classic rock fans who still don’t have enough Led Zeppelin in their lives, here’s some more: The much-ballyhooed documentary Becoming Led Zeppelin has now been completed and will presumably be coming to a screen near you sometime soon.
The film — which will reportedly include new interviews with Jimmy Page, Robert Plant and John Paul Jones, along with plenty of archival footage, one assumes — focuses on their early days, culminating with their second album in 1970. Is this a good thing? Well, maybe, depending on how much control and independence director Bernard McMahon has over the final cut. But it’s certainly a big enough topic for Eric Alper and I to jaw about in today’s episode of Sonic Reducers. Join us as we ponder the pros and cons of authorized documentaries, consider Zep’s continuing relevance in today’s music scene, and wonder whether the mudshark story will make the movie. Sonic Reducers. One topic. Two music nerds. Five minutes. Everything you need to know.
