Classic Album Review: Sisqo | Return of Dragon

The Thong Song man's tame second set offers the usual hip-hop crack ’n’ thump.

This came out in 2001 – or at least that’s when I got it. Here’s what I said about it back then (with some minor editing):

If ever there was an album made for summertime beach listening, you’d think it would be this sophomore platter from Thong Songer and former Dru Hill crooner Sisqo. But you’d be wrong.

Sadly, nothing on Return of Dragon has the same irresistible bounce and salacious irreverence of Sisqo’s massive ode to rump-baring garments — although Dance With Me is such a blatant rewrite Mr. S could sue himself for plagiarism. As for the rest of this surprisingly short 42-minute set, well, it’s just track after track of the usual hip-hop crack ’n’ thump, topped by Sisqo’s string-driven melodies and lover-man vocals. All in all, this Dragon is a pretty tame beast.
