You know what they say about best-laid plans. That goes double these days — especially when you’re talking about music on late-night TV. Not surprisingly, the talk shows haven’t been in a very festive mood this week. So virtually all the performances scheduled for earlier this week were bumped for interviews. But now that things have calmed down ever so slightly, the music has started to creep back into the proceedings. M. Ward returned to The Late Late Show With James Corden to play Unreal City from his recent release Migration Stories. Tunde Adebimple of TV On The Radio shared a solo version of his band’s song Dear Science that he taped in April for The Late Show With Stephen Colbert. The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon dug even further back in the archives for a 2010 clip of The Roots and Jim James playing Dear God 2.0. And Tim McGraw brought his latest ballad I Called Mama to Late Night With Seth Meyers, for some reason. OK, it ain’t the greatest late-night lineup. But it’s a start.
