Late-Night TV Music (One Of Those Days Edition) | Nov. 18, 2019

You sleep in once and look what happens! 1975, Black Keys and more bring the rock.

I decided to sleep in this morning for once. So naturally, I was greeted by a slew of emails that needed immediate attention and prevented me from getting down to work. Bottom line: It’s going to be one of those days. On the plus side, Monday was a pretty good night for music on the tube. Best of the bunch for my money: The 1975, who popped in on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert to play their appropriately jittery single Frail State of Mind, which definitely bodes well for their upcoming album Notes on a Conditional Form. Also decent: The Black Keys, cranking out Lo/Hi and Go from their recent album Let’s Rock — though personally, I liked them better when they were a minimalist duo, not arena-rock stars who are outnumbered by their sidemen. Then again, less is not always more, as Australian dance-popster Tones & I made clear while debuting her ditty Dance Monkey on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. I kept waiting for something interesting to happen, but sadly, nothing ever did. Finally, for your nightly dose of rap, Dave East and Teyana Taylor teamed up to present Need A Sign on The Late Late Show With James Corden. Phew. Clearly, I picked the wrong morning to sleep in. I was going to add that I also picked the wrong day to stop sniffing glue, but who am I kidding? That’s never going to happen!
