The fin. Are Awash In Echoes Of Childhood

The indie-pop duo offer listeners a cleansing journey to their own inner sanctuary.

The fin. navigate the dreamy psychedelic Echoes of their own past in their new single and visualizer video — showcasing today on Tinnitist.

Opening with the ambient sounds of insects and birdsong, the song weaves singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Yuto Uchino’s velvety, melting vocals with shimmering, floating synths, creating a lush, atmospheric soundscape. As the track progresses, laid-back drumming builds into a psychedelic danceable groove, evoking the serene beauty of Uchino’s childhood home. Uchino describes the song as an exploration of identity and a retutn to pure, unfiltered emotions, offering listeners a cleansing journey to their own inner sanctuary.

Echoes is a journey into the quiet heart of my hometown,” Uchino explains. “A hill under endless stars, where the air feels alive with clarity and memory. The place became a mirror for my soul, reflecting the person I used to be and guiding me toward the simplest, purest version of myself. The song weaves through questions of identity and the deep pull of nostalgia, inviting you to explore your own echoes of the past. I hope it resonates something within you.”

Echoes arrives just three months after The fin.’s last release, marking the 10th anniversary of their debut album Days With Uncertainty. They will continue this series of commemorative releases with the 7″ vinyl of Night Time (Bad Milk Remix) for Record Store Day 2025 on April 12. In May, aligned with plans for shows in the U.K., they will release two 7″ records featuring the singles Toward The Sun and Alone In The Sky, along with two new tracks. All tracks are to be included on a full album due later in the year.

The band were formed in 2012 by Uchino (vocals, guitar, synthesizer) and Kaoru Nakazawa (bass, synthesizer). Uchino creates the band’ s music, handling songwriting, recording, mixing, and production. Their sound is based on indie and psychedelic pop, fused with soul, funk, and jazz, creating a soft and mellow sound that brings a sense of peace. Yuto’ s lyrics give power while accepting fear of growth and change, adding to the unique aesthetic of The fin.’s musical world.

They’ve taken the stage at numerous venues in the U.K., U.S., Europe and Asia, showcasing their talent at festivals like Fuji Rock, Summer Sonic, SXSW and The Great Escape. During their 2023 China tour, they staged shows in over 25 cities, drawing a cumulative audience exceeding 20,000. They have also toured with numerous artists such as Phoenix, The Last Shadow Puppets, MEW, Circa Waves and Wild Nothing.

The fin. released Days With Uncertainty in 2014. It was recorded, mixed, and produced by Uchino. Their second album There (2018) welcomed Bradley Spence (Jamiroquai, Radiohead, alt-J) as a co-producer. He returned for the EP Wash Away in 2019, joined by co-producer Jake Miller. Their third album Outer Ego (2021) was entirely recorded, mixed, and produced by Uchino.
