Late-Night TV Music (Fake Sincerity Edition) | Oct. 7, 2019

The Avetts, Black Pumas, Lauren Daigle and Ben Platt get earnest on the airwaves.

You know the old saying: If you can fake sincerity, you’ve got it made. Well, there was plenty of sincerity on display in the musical segments of Monday’s late-night talk shows. The always-earnest Avett Brothers urged us all to Tell the Truth to ourselves on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, delivering their message on a pure white set as if they were angels performing in the afterlife. Austin’s Black Pumas sang the praises of racial diversity and harmony with their single Colors on Jimmy Kimmel Live. Lauren Daigle brought out the gospel with her number Still Rolling Stones on Late Night With Seth Meyers. And Broadway boy Ben Platt tickled the ivories on the ballad Run Away for The Late Late Show With James Corden. Which of them were truly sincere and which were faking it? Watch and judge for yourself.
