Barenaked Ladies | Fake Nudes: Naked

The CanCon veterans prove less is not always more with their stripped-down EP.

WHO ARE THEY? The long-serving CanCon pop-rockers whose great-great-grandchildren will still be living off residuals from their theme song to The Big Bang Theory.

WHAT IS THIS? An EP with nine stripped-down versions of songs from their 2017 album Fake Nudes — released to coincide with their latest tour opening for Hootie & The Blowfish.

WHAT DOES IT SOUND LIKE? BNL Lite — though it’s honestly hard to imagine them being much lighter.

WHAT WOULD BE A BETTER TITLE FOR THIS ALBUM? Stripped Barenaked.

HOW SHOULD I LISTEN TO IT? While eating mayonnaise on white bread and drinking a white wine spritzer. Just keep your pants on, OK?

WHAT 10 WORDS DESCRIBE IT? Lightweight, charming, humourous, quirky, sweet, predictable, familiar, earnest, opportunistic, unnecessary.

WHAT ARE THE BEST SONGS? The strummy Lookin’ Up and the slightly darker We Took the Night have a little more oomph.

WHAT WILL MY FRIENDS AND FAMILY THINK? ‘Turns out less is not always more.’

HOW OFTEN WILL I LISTEN TO THIS? Every time you need a break from the punishing heaviness of their other albums, I guess.

IF THIS ALBUM WERE CLOTHING, WHAT KIND CLOTHING WOULD IT BE? A cardigan sweater tied around your neck.

SHOULD I BUY, STREAM OR STEAL? If you didn’t buy the last album, why would you want to shell out for this?
