The latter is arguably The Wu-Tang Clan’s most colourfully creative, unstoppably prolific and collaboratively daring member. The former is an underappreciated hip-hop supergroup co-starring producer 7L, rapper Esoteric and Ghost’s fellow Clansman Inspectah Deck. Put them together and you get Czarface Meets Ghostface, a memorable meeting of some seriously twisted minds. Much of the credit has to go to 7L, who slices everything from wrestling monologues and vintage film dialogue to cartoon snippets into his head-nodding, low-rolling grooves and spooky, atmospheric soundscapes. But as expected, the real focal points are Ghost, Deck and Esoteric. Aligning into a force greater than the sum of their powers, they speedily spit and spew bizarre monologues about Mongolian Beef, Super Soldier Serum and Powers and Stuff, nimbly and gracefully darting around the mix, the beat and the scene without stepping on the others’ verbal toes. A heroic effort all around. Can’t wait for the sequel.
