This came out in 2005 — or at least that’s when I got it. Here’s what I said about it back then (with some minor editing):
Hey, ho! Uh-oh.
If you’re a Ramones fan, you have to see End Of The Century — though afterward, you might with you hadn’t. This brutally frank doc pulls no punches in its bid to demythologize the Noo Yawk punks who started off pretending to be siblings, only to end up trapped in one of rock’s most dysfunctional families. Gangly singer Joey was a frail oddball with near-crippling OCD. Man-child bassist Dee Dee was as lovable as a six-year-old — and as dependable. Guitarist Johnny was a cold-hearted control freak who ran the band with military precision. And that’s just the start: After Joey’s girlfriend left him for Johnny — supposedly prompting the singer to pen The KKK Took My Baby Away — the two “brudders” barely spoke to each other for the rest of their lives. After watching this moving, blackly humourous entry, you’ll be amazed they didn’t kill each other years ago.
