Col Gerrard makes it clear that you don’t know how he thinks (and really don’t want to) on his passionate and thoughtful new single The Way I Feel — showasing today on Tinnitist.
Like its predecessors, the fourth single from the rising singer-songwriter is packed with distinctive charm and wisdom. The Way I Feel once again displays his memorable style as Gerrard leaves a resonating impact on listeners through his authenticity and heart. The track dives deep into the artist’s thoughts and feelings, accentuated by the cultured tone of his mahogany-rich vocals and the stirring nature of its instrumentation.
“I’ve always been a huge fan of David Bowie, and his ability to reach people with his music,” Col explains. “He has always had a way of making people feel special in a way like no one else can do. His lyrics haven’t always had a message, but they have always had a meaning and a feeling. Peter Gabriel, Kate Bush, Carole King… all of these people have a way of communicating emotion in their music that moves me and inspires me enormously. There is no art form in the world that moves me in the way that music does. It has the power to speak directly to a person’s soul.”
When crafting his music, Gerrard is led by feeling rather than technique or aesthetic; everything comes from deep within the artist’s core. He draws from his own globetrotting adventures and wealth of experiences to achieve his sound, providing him with an authenticity and emotion that feels entirely his own. “To have my music touch people in similar ways, for the emotions that I am conveying in my songs to resonate so deeply with someone as to move them, that’s my main goal and hope for my songs.”
Col’s sound has managed to capture and inspire listeners and provide him with a powerful foundation to build off as he edges towards the release of his album in April. The tracks that he has released so far do a great job of showcasing what to expect from the upcoming release, and the consistency and charm that characterize him as an artist.
