Twilight Muse reach a higher ground with the help of Robert Randolph and G. Love on their fiery live cover of the Stevie Wonder classic Livin’ For The City — showcasing today on Tinnitist.
The first offering from their upcoming, just-announced live album Collabs: Live at Garcia’s at The Cap, this epic seven-minute version celebrates Wonder’s timeless urban R&B classic, while taking it to new places with the help of Randolph’s glistening pedal steel lines and Love’s soulful harmonica. It’s one of those tear-the-roof-off-the-mutha, you-had-to-be-there moments that usually fall between the cracks of preservation — except this time Twilight Muse catured it on audio and video.
Even the band described the event as unforgettable: “Robert invited G. Love up on stage and the two of them played dueling solos on pedal steel and blues harp — and the jam exploded into a full-on party.”
It’s just one of the stellar jams documented on Collabs, due April 25. Recorded at Garcia’s — the intimate venue adjacent to Port Chester, N.Y.’s Capitol Theatre — the album captures dynamic collaborations with a host of musical greats, including Randolph, Love, Blues Traveler’s John Popper, The Meters’ George Porter Jr. and The Soul Rebels.
The album emphasizes Twilight Muse’s musical growth, combining their noted storytelling and layered vocals with spontaneous onstage magic. Fans can catch Twilight Muse’s next performance at Garcia’s on May 8, when more surprises and improvisational jams are expected.
