This came out in 2005 — or at least that’s when I got it. Here’s what I said about it back then (with some minor editing):
Damon & Naomi’s first album back in 1992 was titled More Sad Hits. It could easily have been the title of every album they’ve made since — including The Earth Is Blue.
This sixth disc from the former rhythm section of Galaxie 500 continues to mine the dream-pop and psyche-folk vein they’ve been working for more than a decade. Which is not to call these 10 cuts predictable or repetitive; the duo’s swirling melancholy and haunting melody never get tired, and some searing solos from a guest guitarist and the occasional horn lines (not to mention an angelic cover of My Guitar Gently Weeps) keep everything from becoming too narcoleptic. Of course, even they would probably admit this isn’t exactly groundbreaking stuff. Best to put it this way: If you’ve ever been a fan of Damon & Naomi’s sad hits, The Earth Is Blue just gives you more to love.
