Staytus is imprisoned inside a haunted house of her own making in her chilling and thrilling new single and lyric video Suburban Gothic — showcasing today on Tinnitist.
The latest instalment in the emerging industrial-electronic artist’s Twisted Frames series, Suburban Gothic is an eerie and introspective anthem that takes listeners on a descent into a bottomless pit of paranoia, fear, and self-discovery. Inspired by Matthew Gray Gubler’s cult-classic horror film — but personalized with Staytus’s spooky, revealing lyrics — the track is a sonically immersive experience, with layered synths, heavy guitars, and an unrelenting rhythm section that mirrors its dark, psychological themes. This soundtrack for the haunted mind was produced by Matt McJunkins (A Perfect Circle, Puscifer) at Secret Hand Studios.
Staytus describes the song as both a personal exploration and a tribute to surreal horror. “Suburban Gothic was inspired by the movie of the same name and its dark, surreal humor,” she says. “The lyrics reflect themes of paranoia, fear, and confronting the things that haunt us — whether they’re real or in our heads. It’s about finding the strength to move forward, even when the past tries to pull you back.”
The lyrics paint an blood-curdling picture of an eerie, inescapable force moving through the darkness:

“They hide in the shadows
They whisper in my head
They creep through the hallways
They hide beneath my bed
I know i’m not deluded
I can see the dead
And I can hear them calling
And I can feel the dread.”
This haunting imagery is brought to life with aggressive industrial beats, distorted vocals, and ominous atmospherics, cementing Suburban Gothic as one of Staytus’s most immersive and unsettling tracks to date. To complement the release, Staytus will unveil an official video for the song on Feb. 25, delivering a visually stunning and eerie interpretation of the cut’s eerie themes.
