Charlie Rogers recounts his coming-out story and its aftermath in his new single Consequences Of My Honesty — showcasing today on Tinnitist.
Using compelling lyrics and sentimental musicality, the Nashville singer’s latest release delves into the wide spectrum of emotions he experienced after revealing he is bisexual, only to feel some of his loved ones were hesitant to accept. The groundbreaking piece about coming out and overcoming the obstacles of rejection offers a heartfelt close to Pride Month.
Produced by Jess Grommet and co-written by Rogers, Chase Coy and Evan Michael, Consequences Of My Honesty captures the anxieties of being true to yourself through its expressive storytelling and soul-stirring melody. When Rogers was working on the lyrics, he wanted to open the doors to the idea that coming out experiences are all different, but there is an in-between reaction that is not often spoken about.
“Too often we hear stories from the media of coming outs that are polarizing; either the result is total acceptance or rejection,” explains Rogers. “Very few stories sit in the in-between, which is where I’ve found the majority of our stories, my own included, truly live.” With Consequences Of My Honesty, Rogers has been open with revealing his story to the world as it was a battle between staying true to himself because his sexuality left him feeling like “a dirty secret” and his coming out was swept under the rug.
The Oregon-born, Kansas-raised musician’s quest for writing and performing music began at a young age. Rogers has always had a true passion for music and feels his purpose is to promote equity between his fans and himself to create a transparent country and singer/songwriter sound. Currently in Nashville, he has played alongside artists including Russell Dickerson, Brothers Osborne and Janelle Arthur, and has performed at CMA ceremonies for Charley Pride and Ricky Skaggs. His compassionate voice and poignant writing style have allowed his musical drive to thrive and garnered him features in multiple outlets.
