Gianfranco Pescetti Dances With A Sundog

The electronica / dance artist shares the latest single from his Daystar Nocturnal LP.

Gianfranco Pescetti moves between the worlds of light and shadow on his new single and video for Sundog — showcasing today on Tinnitist.

Illuminated by a mesmerizing performance by dancer Archer Rose, Sundog is the latest release from Daystar Nocturnal, the independent electronic/dance artist’s first full-length release in nearly 10 years — and a work that ventures into both ambient and dance music. With this album, Pescetti returns to his roots with more classic EDM flavours while also delving into the intricate interplay between light and darkness.

For Pescetti, it’s clear this album represents a sonic exploration that transcends the boundaries of traditional genres. In an industry often defined by strict categorizations, he challenges the norm by embracing the fluidity inherent in music, always finding inspiration in the tension that exists between its opposing forces.

“Music, for me, is something fluid,” he explains. “There has always been an ambivalence that I can’t get away from. “Daystar Nocturnal is my attempt to explore the depth of emotions and create a profoundly personal and evocative sound without conforming to the rigid specifications of a particular genre, all while keeping an eye to the dance floor.”

With Pescetti showcasing his talent on bass as well as a producer, Daystar Nocturnal is an album meant to be personal not just for him but for the listener. Emotive and meditative tones dancing around each other, it’s also hard to ignore the technical prowess contained within this concept album. For Pescetti, his hope is that fans also feel the existential. “I’d like to exist at the intersection of both light and dark, and that is how I hear the music. It’s within this duality that the tension — the push and pull — can be found.”

Pescetti currently resides on the Hawaiian island of Maui. Originally from the Tuscan Island of Capraia, he previously lived in France for a few years before moving to the United States to continue his music career. He draws inspiration from a diverse range of musical genres, including contemporary chillwave acts as well as legendary artists such as Depeche Mode and The Cure. His sound has been favorably compared to Flying Lotus, Thundercat, Röyksopp, Cocteau Twins and Jean Michel Jarre, a testament to his versatility.

Pescetti’s artistic background is diverse, having studied ballet and danced professionally while also pursuing music lessons and recording in his late teens. In 1988, he moved to San Francisco, where he became an active member of the city’s music scene and played bass guitar for multiple bands, including Alfred, which he founded with singer-guitarist Jane Woodman and cellist Zoe Keating. He released his debut solo album Love is Rain in 2014.
