LiVES proves that once is not enough with his turbocharged new single and animated video Come Together #2 — showcasing today on Tinnitist.
The lead single from former Sea singer-guitarist Peter Chisholm’s upcoming solo album Let Them Eat Cake, Come Together #2 might be familiar to fans — and no wonder. It’s essentially a bigger, louder, harder-hitting version of his 2021 track Come Together, a highlight from his Bayonne 21 album that was co-written with Brit Award-winning multi-platinum artist James Morrison.
“I was in James Morrison’s home studio some years ago, hanging out doing a few bits and bobs together,” Chisholm recalls. “We wrote a song called Come Together and he gave me the ‘tapes’ and said ‘Do whatever you want with it.’ I left it on the back burner for a long time until I went through a depression and started writing a totally separate song… the chord pattern sounded familiar and all at once I realized it was the same song I’d done with James some years before. For fun I opened up the old recording and started jamming with my friend. It sounded great and I never forgot his words: ‘Do what you want with it.’ So I have!”
While the energized new version — fueled by Chisholm’s blazing fretwork —undeniably takes the track up a notch or two sonically, the lyrical message remains the same. “Essentially the song is about depression, feeling lost and useless whilst people around me get on in life,” Chisholm explains. “It’s about panic and disenfranchisement with the world but also yearning to pull oneself out of the darkness.” It’s not hard to hear what he’s talking about in lines like:
“I’m on my knees praying that we’ve still got time
Do we have to dream up another alibi?
Well I don’t know if I’ve got to believe
All I know is where I’m meant to be
A movement in our souls
It’s time to let it go
Drowning in it all
Brother let it go
I’m begging you to come together.”
Now based in France, Chisholm was the singer and guitarist with cult U.K. rock duo The Sea, which also featured his brother Alex on drums. They released three studio albums and played over 1,000 concerts and festivals, including Glastonbury, CMJ, SXSW and Eurosonic, in addition to touring with Muse, The Kills and Morrison. They scored several radio hits with songs such as New York, Love Love Love and Get Up Stand Up Die.
After independently releasing The Flying EP and The Naked EP, LiVES moved towards a more guitar-forward style with his debut album Bayonne 21. He’s going heavier still on Let Them Eat Cake. Due Oct. 25, the album was produced by John Cornfield (Muse, Oasis, Verve, Robert Plant, Stone Roses, Ride). Chisholm’s music is used on TV, film and advertising around the world. In addition to Morrison, he has cowritten with Bob Geldof.
