Classic Album Reviews: Yes | Tormato / Drama / 90125 Expanded Reissues

The prog-rock gods present a trio of mid-period albums stuffed with extras.

1.83.0-NHFIRRYSU4O46DNNZWJOK4PZCE.0.2-2

These came out in 2004 – or at least that’s when I got them. Here’s what I said about them back then (with some minor editing):

THE SKINNY: Rhino dusts off and expands three more sets from the catalog of prog-rock gods Yes: 1978’s torpid Tormato; 1980’s Drama, with new members The Buggles; and 1983’s commercial rebirth 90125.

THE OLDIES: Tormato has Don’t Kill The Whale; Drama delivers Into The Lens and Tempus Fugit; 90125 posts big numbers like Owner Of A Lonely Heart, It Can Happen and Leave It.

THE GOODIES: Collectors take note: All of these come stuffed with liner notes, lyrics and bonus tracks. Tormato and Drama each feature 10 extra cuts of mostly unreleased fare, while 90125 adds half a dozen remixes and rarities. Best of the lot: Drama’s lengthy instrumental jams and tracks from an aborted 1979 album.
