Classic Album Review: Meat Puppets | Classic Puppets

The sibling-led Arizona rockers share some highlights from their ’80s indie releases.

This came out in 2004 – or at least that’s when I got it. Here’s what I said about it back then (with some minor editing):

THE SKINNY: They started as hardcore noisemakers, evolved into psychedelic roots-punks, put out a slew of cool discs — and even made a few bucks when Nirvana covered three of their songs on Unplugged. Here are highlights of the sibling-led Arizona rockers’ ’80s indie CDs.

THE OLDIES: Lake Of Fire, Plateau, Up On The Sun and 17 more — but sadly, none of their later gems like Backwater.

THE GOODIES: Two so-so studio leftovers and a live cut from ’88; one cut from guitarist Curt Kirkwood’s post-Pups band.
