THE EDITED PRESS RELEASE: “The Faithful: A Tribute To Marianne Faithfull is a benefit album featuring Iggy Pop, Cat Power, Shirley Manson, Tanya Donelly, Joan As Police Woman, Donita Sparks, Peaches and many others. Everyone involved with this two-LP tribute has graciously donated their talent, time and energy so that all proceeds go directly to the British Invasion hitmaker as she recovers from long COVID.
The Faithful sports 19 spirited selections from Marianne’s songbook, kicking off with Tracy Bonham’s haunted, glowing take on 1964 chart-topper As Tears Go By. The album also features Cat Power and Iggy Pop’s tensely pulsing, ominously hallucinogenic version of her arrangement of John Lennon’s Working Class Hero; Shirley Manson (Garbage) and Peaches’ electro-clash take on 1979’s controntational Why D’Ya Do It; and covers of Faithfull classics like Sister Morphine (Sylvia Black), Broken English (deconstructed by Joan As Police Woman), The Ballad Of Lucy Jordan (stripped down to its country roots by Tammy Faye Starlite), Strange Weather (torched into a slow-flowing, mesmeric ballad by Nicole Atkins and Jim Sclavunos), This Little Bird (Tanya Donelly and the Parkington Sisters), Love, Life And Money (Lydia Lunch) and more.
Says Marianne: “Their interpretations of songs that I have recorded and performed over the course of my 60-plus-year career is incredibly moving.”
