Clara Cloud’s Mystical Archer Hits The Mark

The B.C. singer-songwriter’s new single offers a piercing ode to empowerment.

Clara Cloud’s aim is true on her ethereal and captivating new single The Archer — showcasing today on Tinnitist.

The B.C. singer-songwriter’s latest release whisks you away on a transfixing musical journey rooted in mythology and female empowerment. The Archer is a piercing exploration of female rage, reflecting the struggle against confinement and the yearning for freedom. It draws inspiration from Artemis, the Greek goddess of the moon and the hunt, merging ancient symbols with contemporary soundscapes.

The song’s composition weaves the story into the instrumental, transitioning from grounded minor chords in the verses to uplifting major chords in the choruses and mirroring the journey from constraint to liberation. Traditional percussion was not used — instead, the song utilizes the sampled sound of Cloud shooting an arrow into a target.

Lyrically, The Archer offers a blend of mythology and witchy themes, appealing to those with a taste for the mystical. Cloud has been described as a fairy songstress, and this enchanting tale explains why:

“Take the arrow from my hand and send it through the air
Cause if my heart is out of sight, it could be anywhere
You said you wanted peace of mind, that’s more than I could bear
But when I gave a piece of mine, you took the lion’s share
Hold me down, my head’s too light to stay upon the ground
Help me stay, I’m far too tired of being swept away.”

Singer-songwriter, story weaver and forest dweller Clara MacLeod is originally from the mountain town of Kimberley, B.C., but lives in Vancouver. Infusing indie-pop with gorgeous imagery, soaring harmonies, and elements of Celtic, folk, and alternative genres, she believes music is magic. There’s nothing she loves more than weaving stories, evoking nostalgia, and creating a soft space for listeners to stay for a while.

She released her debut single Window in 2020, and the song has since been used in the short film Finding Your Rhythm (directed by Leah Galloway). Since then, she has released several self-produced singles with her debut album The Woods planned for release in 2024.
