The Veer Union and 2 Shadows play for keeps in their new haunting and melodic metalcore single and video Marionette — showcasing today on Tinnitist.
Just in time for Halloween, the two Vancouver bands double-team you on a darkly intense anthem with a soaring chorus, grimly grinding guitars and a suitably spooky vibe — which is reflected in the accompanying video featuring plenty of in-your-face performance footage.
“Marionette was a really enjoyable song to write,” 2 Shadows frontman Glen Bridden says. “On the surface, it has a great beat and puppet metaphors. Conceptually it’s a rant about how people so often feel this obligation to do all these things, all the while without really knowing why. It’s what it feels like to be stuck in the middle of the blind leading the blind and being manipulated. The song is a call for people to stand out and stand up for who they are without letting their integrity be stolen out from under them.
“In the music video for Marionette, we have these themes of suspension and weightlessness drawn from the lyrics and vibe of the song that are translated into the visuals. The void-like space we occupy lends itself really nicely to the darkness in the track.”
Ryan Ramsdell of The Veer Union adds: “In the Marionette video, we aimed to maintain a connection with the themes of weightlessness and suspension while also visualizing some of the powerful influences steering our world’s current course. It was exciting to with 2 Shadows as they always bring it when performing live. Our director Julien Bouffard made the video shoot here in Vancouver memorable.”
2 Shadows are at the duo of vocalist Bridden and guitarist Tryst Germaine. For the past seven years, they have been meticulously and methodically honing in their craft, leaving no stone unturned. Inspired by acts like Slipknot, Rammstein and Korn — along with modern metal acts such as Avenged Sevenfold — 2 Shadows combine cutting-edge sonics with visually theatrical imagery. Says Bridden, “Our live show is just as important to us as our music. We try to make our live show a visual representation of our music. We are constantly building and evolving our stage show so our fans can always expect something different and exciting!”
The Veer Union are a Vancouver hard rock band fronted by vocalist Crispin Earl. They formed in 2004 and released their first independent album Time To Break The Spell in 2006. They are intrepid road warriors. They have been averaging 100-plus shows per year for the last 10 years. Their 2018 album Decade II (produced by Earl) contained four Billboard Top 40 singles and has been streamed over 35 million times. They just released the album Covers Collection Vol. 2.
