Classic Album Review: The Legendary Shack*Shakers | CockADoodleDon’t

The Nashville roots rebels mix hoodoo, voodoo, boogaloo and Elvis too.

This came out in 2003 – or at least that’s when I got it. Here’s what I said about it back then (with some minor editing):

These Nashville roots rebels sound like a mix of corn liquor, cheap guitars, Johnny Cash, chicken wire, jaw harps, Commander Cody and His Lost Planet Airmen, roosters, old Sun records, bacon rinds, CCR licks, vintage amps, Hank Sr., bluegrass, Flat Duo Jets, echo chambers, chewing tobacco, The Cramps, The Carter Family, biscuits ’n’ gravy, wacky tobacky, Southern Culture on the Skids, rockabilly boogie, bullfrogs, coveralls, John Lee Hooker, twang, twang ’n’ more twang, not to mention hoodoo, voodoo, boogaloo and Elvis too. No wonder their shack is shakin’.
