Classic DVD Review: Brian Wilson | On Tour

This 77-minute doc follows the icon as he navigates the day-to-day grind of touring.

This came out in 2003 – or at least that’s when I got it. Here’s what I said about it back then (with some minor editing):

Few contemporary musicians have soared higher, fallen lower and, ultimately, climbed back farther than Brian Wilson.

After years of crippling mental instability and seclusion, The Beach Boys mastermind and consummate pop composer has orchestrated an amazing return to performing. This 77-minute documentary paints an intimate portrait of Wilson the performer and bandleader as he navigates the day-to-day grind of touring — the rehearsals, the dressing rooms, the interviews, the celebrity gladhanding, the autograph sessions, the bus trips — with the energy and enthusiasm of a teenager. Oh, and he plays a few nice tunes, too.
