Albums Of The Week: Fvzz Popvli | III

The Italian power trio keep it weird and wild on their rambunctious third studio LP.

THE TRANSLATED & EDITED PRESS RELEASE:III is (surprise) the third studio album from the Roman band Fvzz Popvli, recorded live at the Big Pine Creek Recording Studio in Parma in February 2020. The musical themes differ considerably from the previous works, preferring a more garage / acid rock / punk style, compared to the stoner-psych sound of the first two albums. The Stooges, Dead Boys, Agent Orange, Hawkwind, Ty Segall, Motörhead and Misfits are some of the bands that have most influenced the sonic and compositional landscape of the LP.

The instrumental Intro gently leads you towards the single Monnoratzo, a percussive “uptempo” fugue to get away from a particularly annoying evening customer who does not give up and forces you to run away towards the rising sun. Kvng Fvzz, the first single, may teach you too how to succeed — with the help of distorted riffs — in perfecting the art of combat par excellence, daringly saving you from certain death in the streets of Shanghai.

We then immediately fall back into hell with Post-Shit — which features a cavernous instrumental intro that crumbles into the depths of the abyss and reminds you that darkness reigns supreme. The track goes on to confront the power that society has over us and that we will never be able to avoid, except with an act of musical rebellion.

The first track on the B-Side is The Last Piece of Shame — aka the last piece of pizza that, out of politeness, nobody ever wants to eat. A metaphor of life’s missed opportunities, we instead invite you to take it and devour it without thinking too much about it. Otherwise, the consequence will be to be chained — or more precisely Tied — to someone, to someone, to something, to time, to life. Be careful not to let yourself be trapped by an invisible leash; why not try to get rid of it by shaking yourself?

We close with a flourish, but also in peace — to digest well you need to be in peace. 20 Cent Blues is the pill to fall asleep and forget about it. Fvzz Poplvi go their way and you will go yours (or maybe not). And remember: not even a fight with your loved one will be able to free you from the torpor of a life spent not doing much, but still enjoying it.

Here III ends, with an inevitable and annoying climax that leads to nothing, if not a possible new beginning. It’s up to you to decide whether to turn the vinyl again and try to understand something more. As long as you come and explain it to us.”
