“Weird Al” Yankovic and Phil Spector might not have a lot in common — aside from being on your TV screen this week, that is. I just binged the illuminating and well-balanced new four-part doc Spector, and IMHO it does a fantastic job of recapping and contextualizing the legendary producer’s traumatic personal life, his illustrious career and the horrific killing of Lana Clarkson — without ever veering into hagiography or sensationalism. Of course, if that’s a little heavy for you, there’s always Weird: The Al Yankovic Story. It has everything you could want from a “Weird Al” ‘biopic’ — a hilarious and outrageous mish-mash of fact, fiction, fantasy and (yes) parody, featuring a VIP cast led by a distractingly buff Daniel Radcliffe and even a cameo by Al hisself. I highly recommend them both.
