Classic Album Review: Lisa Loeb | Hello Lisa

The singer-songwriter reheats her Cake And Pie album with some new sides.

This came out in 2002 – or at least that’s when I got it. Here’s what I said about it back then (with some minor editing):

Better make that Hello Again.

This may look like a new Lisa Loeb album, but don’t be fooled. Most of Hello Lisa — right down to the liner notes and the picture of her on the cover — is a reissue of Cake And Pie, the album she released this spring on A&M before abruptly parting ways with the label. If you missed it the first time around, don’t rush to play catchup — this set of lightweight, breathy girly-pop ballads and jangly garage-rockers isn’t Loeb’s finest hour. And the three new songs added to this version of Cake And Pie aren’t enough to bring any but the most faithful back for seconds.
