Albums Of The Week: Weezer | SZNZ: Autumn

Rivers Cuomo and co. continue to chronicle the changing seasons with new albums.

Yep, it’s true. Summer’s officially over. I learned this the hard way today, after trying to work outside for a while and being forced back inside by chilly fingers.

Granted, depending on where you live, you might not have noticed the change just yet. But rest assured that Rivers Cuomo and Weezer are on top of it. They just released the seven-song Autumn, the third of four seasonal releases dropping this year. To be honest, I didn’t pay much attention to the first two. Even for me, a new Weezer album every three months is a little more than I need. Having said that, Autumn is pleasant and colourful enough, with some suitably warm numbers but nothing too overheated, and a fittingly sombre feel overall. It’s not going to knock any of their greatest hits off your playlist, but it’s certainly worth a listen.

Get a head start on the season (and this week’s releases) by checking it out below (along with previous entries Spring and Summer). While you’re at it, watch Weezer perform What Happens After You on Jimmy Kimmel Live. And mark your calendar for December, when they wrap up the whole affair with Winter. Anybody wanna start a pool on the band’s next ambitiously kooky musical concept? I’ll put five bucks on a series of holiday-themed releases — Valentine’s Day, Easter, Fourth Of July, etc. Any takers?
