Ojos | Peligrosa

HOME BASE: France.
GENRE: Indie-Rock.
THE EDITED BIO & PRESS RELEASE: “The music of Ojos is born from duality. Between two souls, two worlds. Half pop, half urban, it is refined, resolutely contemporary. Half Spanish-speaking, half French-speaking, it showcases the perpetual tension between love and hate, sweetness and violence, madness and reason. To sublimate the contrast of emotions, the productions are adorned with hip-hop accents, without abandoning the guitar, which preserves the balance of the whole. As a male/female duo, Ojos defend the equality of sexes and genders in their lyrics. The members of the duo, through their music, defend the rights of women, while aiming to prevent against harassment, as well as sexual and sexist violence. Peligrosa is the first single from Ojos‘ upcoming second EP. It’s a story of harassment: In 2016, Elodie was threatened with death online. Peligrosa means dangerous. It’s when you’re not afraid anymore and you take back the power.”

Electric Enemy | Take The Wheel

HOME BASE: United Kingdom.
GENRE: Indie-Rock.
THE EDITED BIO & PRESS RELEASE:Electric Enemy are a dynamic London rock band making music in response to the world around them, speaking to a generation looking for something they can relate to. They make music with a message that’s as powerful as their hook-laden sound, with lyrics that tell tales of broken hearts, a broken world, and breaking boundaries. Take The Wheel deals with the difficult topic of our own mortality and the futility we can sometimes feel in life. Says singer Jim Lawton:“Take The Wheel was written from a perspective of anxiety and discontentment, and is about letting a part of yourself that you might normally bury come out to play. Take The Wheel is Electric Enemy experimenting with more of a ‘dancey’ feel rhythmically, and we sought to take inspiration from some of our favourite acts in that genre, with both Daft Punk and Justice being strong production references. Some of our favourite rock bands have also taken a stroll down a more groove-ridden road such as Queens Of The Stone Age and Royal Blood, and we loved their results. We wanted to make a song that says ‘I’m having an existential life crisis, but damn I could dance.’ ”

LohArano | Sidina

HOME BASE: Madagascar.
GENRE: Metal.
THE EDITED BIO & PRESS RELEASE: “Rock and malagasy ternary rhythms join the big sound of rock and metal. LohArano means ‘the source,’ a roar of the new generation. The powerful trio are led by the charismatic Mahalia on lead vocals and guitar; she assumes her feminism in a country where being a female rocker is (almost) heretical. Mika is on bass; he doesn’t stay in place, he grooves with super-powerful rhythms even jazzy and funky tones. Natiana is the drummer, the flow is hectic, his tones hitting and striking. Their first concert outside Madagascar in 2021 was a big success, leaving their mark on everyone who saw them on stage of the 43rd Trans Musicales Festival of Rennes.”

SaturneVille | (The Ancient and Honorable Art of Suburban) Sleepwalking

HOME BASE: France.
GENRE: Electronica.
THE EDITED BIO & PRESS RELEASE: “On a beautiful morning in 2011, Djama and Alaska Flo — the heads of a two-headed monster — landed on Earth from their distant planet. After taking on an almost-human form, they set about observing the earthlings on YouTube to understand them better. That was a failure, but it was there that they discovered amazing sounds that would leave their mark forever. They came from creatures with such absurd names as Stevie Wonder, Kraftwerk, Flying Lotus and Radiohead. Without further ado the mutants immediately set up their own music combo, mixing sci-fi film soundtracks, funk and electro. Its name: SaturneVille, in homage to their city of origin. After the Welcome to SaturneVille EP in 2015, the album Of Dreams, Nightmares and the Undoubtable Benefits of Sleep Deprivation was released in May. Designed around the theme of dreams and nightmares, the album oscillates between lo-fi soul touches, dreamy electronics and DIY instrumental hip-hop.”

Pain Behavior | Heavy Light

HOME BASE: United States.
GENRE: Electronica.
THE EDITED BIO & PRESS RELEASE:Pain Behavior, pka Enrique Jesus Hernandez, was born in New York City and now resides in the Los Angeles. An artist who touches the far dark regions of the soul with an electronic edge, he hopes their art empowers individuals on their journey toward comfort in the human body and mind. Less is more in his new track Heavy Light, which paints a clear picture of the dangers of love and attachment while still letting the listener fill in the blanks with their own imagination. From the first note that plays, the listener knows that the story about to unfold is going to be dark. The track starts off slow and deep, with a thunderous vibration that can be felt in the bottom of one’s gut, while also feeling almost trapped in something empty and heavy. Regardless, we’re intrigued to go further into the abyss, trusting Hernandez to take us into the depths of what’s to come. This song is a slow burn in the best way possible, building up anticipation with a developing track that takes its time to get to the core.”

Keep It Mellow | All We Need

HOME BASE: France.
GENRE: Pop-rock
THE EDITED BIO & PRESS RELEASE:Keep It Mellow plays with genres and gender. The non-binary Parisian artist’s first project Nº13 is an interactive, genre-bending synesthetic piece divided into three EPs: 4310153, 4310 and Mellow. From rock to trip-hop and lo-fi to pop-rock, the most important part is the emotion. The universe is driven by the main character, a malfunctioning hyper-emotional non-binary robot called Mellow. All We Need is the first step of the story: The early teenage years of this character discovering their emotions and life. Have you ever hear, ‘All you need is love?’ Have you ever thought that was a bit indefinite? This song counterbalances the approach with one thought: If love is all we need, why are you miserable?”

Veron Lou | Just A Number

HOME BASE: France.
GENRE: Jazz-Pop.
THE EDITED BIO & PRESS RELEASE: “Veron Lou spends her life between France, Switzerland and Thailand. She has lived in Singapore, the Seychelles and Bali. “I wrote my first melodies 20 years ago. Busy with everyday life, plans and travels, my songs were put away in a drawer. However, since I was 13 when I sang with a choir at the Salle Pleyel in Paris, there was this little voice inside me that came back to tease me, whispering ‘What if?’ It took time but I finally listened to it. And I’m glad to open up with Just A Number, which talks about age and how it feels. The song gives out a summer vibe and a captivating atmosphere. I grew up surrounded by incomparable female singers like Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, Barbra Streisand, Sade, Annie Lennox and Kate Bush. On male side, I am a huge fan of Queen, Santana and Bowie. It is never too late to produce something that is close to our hearts, whatever the difficulty, age or era of time.”

Mordigan Ritter | Easy Man

HOME BASE: United Kingdom.
GENRE: Foik.
THE EDITED BIO & PRESS RELEASE: “This song was born after I met people that developed mental-health problems after being in the military service — people that have their regrets, that would do anything to go back and make a change, people with a never resting mind, with nightmares that haunt them day and night. Their latest track Labyrinth describes the kind of despair almost everyone experiences at some point in life. Ali Charles | Chosen

HOME BASE: France.
GENRE: Synth-Pop.
THE EDITED BIO & PRESS RELEASE: “From Finistère to Paris via Montreal, Aubin Talbi (alias Ali Charles) has already lived several lives despite being only 25 years old. His first five-track EP Chosen reveals the true musical sensibility of the singer-songwriter: A pop voice set on vaporous but never futile ambiences, interlacing heady and nonchalant synths, piano lines struck as percussion, and urban rhythms in a melancholic downtempo mode. Ali Charles gracefully opens the doors of his universe and his intimacy. Enter, browse, stroll and let yourself be carried by his flow and his trajectory. “Ever since I was little, I’ve always had a sense of duty to my people, as if I was chosen to represent them, to protect them,” he says. “A mission that has led me to make choices, sometimes against my wishes. Chosen carries a message of hope, which invites one to find freedom of choice in order not to feel chosen anymore. A meeting between indie pop and electro, composed on the way to redemption.”

Through music inhabited by the aesthetics of the New Wave, the young musicians invite the audience to join them in dancing and getting lost in their nostalgic surrealism. Their first EP Bloom was released in 2021. Wake Me Up When We Get There is a song that sails between euphoria and insecurity. When the music begins, Lagrave immerses us in an introspection carried out with resilience and meticulousness. The artist, trained in classical music on violin and the piano, he analyzes and classifies his sensations to better accept their paradoxes.
