2 Shadows Embrace The Darkness On Bring The Cold Inside

The Vancouver metalcore foursome lay waste to the competition on their debut EP.

2 Shadows blaze a furious new trail through the metalcore landscape with their new EP Bring The Cold Inside — showcasing today on Tinnitist.

An uncompromising 26-minute onslaught of aggressively slamming beats and destructively craggy riffs — topped with majestic keyboards, anthemic choruses and vocals that go from a grim gothic whisper to a bloodcurdling flamethrower scream at the drop of a detuned D — Bring The Cold Inside finds the Canadian metalcore quartet simultaneously embracing the darkness and stepping into the light, all in order to lay waste to the competition.

Look no further than the devastatingly heavy opening track Keep Breathing, which “uses the theme of possession to address the experience of mental illness,” according to singer Glen Bridden. “Lines in the song draw heavily from the classic horror film The Exorcist in the way that we’re forced to watch someone go through something beyond their control.

“It is an incredibly special track for us because we were able to bring the rawest 2 Shadows sound out from our imaginations and into the real world for everyone to experience. We also had the privilege of working with the incredible Telle Smith of The Word Alive, who elevated the song and sharpened its melodic edge.”

Adds Smith: “When (producer) Crispin Earl sent me the song, I instantly knew I was going to love being a part of it. I tried to pull from my own experiences to give the song a part of myself. I love how it turned out and I hope anybody hearing it can feel the comfort in the sonic darkness we created.”

Founded in Vancouver in 2015, 2 Shadows are led by Bridden and guitarist Tryst Germaine. Since the beginning, they have been meticulously and methodically honing in their craft, leaving no stone unturned. Inspired by household name acts such as Slipknot, Rammstein and Korn, 2 Shadows also take cues from modern metal acts such as Motionless In White, Wage War, Bad Omens and Avenged Sevenfold.

They blend their sound with visually theatrical imagery, creating a duality that is the core essence of the band. “Our live show is just as important to us as our music,” Bridden maintains. “We try to make our live show a visual representation of our music. We are constantly building and evolving our stage show so our fans can always expect something different and exciting!”

The band began working on Bring The Cold Inside in 2019, entering the studio with singer, songwriter, producer and Veer Union frontman Earl. After recording, the band inked a deal with Rock Shop Records and released the track Scratching At The Surface, (including a feature vocal performance by Earl) in November 2020.
