Coldplay will stop making new music in 2025, frontman Chris Martin recently announced. Now, there are four possible reactions to this news:
1 | Oh no!
2 | Really? That long?
3 | Yawn.
4 | Yeah, right.
Personally, I’m in the latter group. If I had a nickel for every band that swore this was their last album / tour / reunion, I’d have enough to pelt them with next time they showed up onstage. So I’m taking Martin’s words with a large grain of salt. But however you feel, it’s definitely the big music story of the day — so it’s what Eric Alper and I are talking about in today’s segment of Sonic Reducers. Tune in to hear us discuss Martin’s surprising announcement, wonder what motivated the ultra-friendly frontman to reveal their plans so far in advance, and debate whether actually they’ll stick to their word — unlike Scorpions, Judas Priest, The Who and countless others. Sonic Reducers. One topic. Two music nerds. Five minutes. Everything you need to know.
