This came out in 2001 – or at least that’s when I got it. Here’s what I said about it back then (with some minor editing):
THE STORY: Putting out a best-of for Wu-Tang Clansman ODB — who’s only released two solo albums — may seem like jumping the gun. Then again, the notoriously unstable (but always colourful) ODB, who was sentenced in July to two years in jail on drug-and-weapons related charges, could certainly use the cash for lawyers and jailhouse smokes.
THE GOODS: Shimmy Shimmy Ya, Brooklyn Zoo, Recognize, Cold Blooded and six other previously released cuts.
THE GOODIES: A remix of Fantasy, his duet with Mariah Carey; an entertainingly incomplete biography.
THE DOWNSIDE: No Wu-Tang tunes; no live stuff; no real rarities; not even all of his truly best material (where’s N—a Please?).
PLAY IT WHILE: Rollin’ with your homies. Or keeping it real. Or something like that.
