Kevin Daniel | My Oh My (ft. Ashlee Joy Hardee): Exclusive Premiere

‘My Oh My is a call to all those who love something that hurts them.’

Kevin Daniel hates himself for loving you in his new single My Oh My — premiering exclusively on Tinnitist.

My Oh My is a call to all those who love something that hurts them,” the North Carolina singer-songwriter elaborates. “Written by my friend Ashlee Joy (Matrimony) and myself, the song took form over a weekend in the eastern Tennessee mountains filled with late nights and moonlit writing sessions. The lyrics weep “My oh my, you’re making me cry. I wish I didn’t love you. I wish I didn’t have to.” That simple line goes straight to my heart, partnered with verses sung by myself and Ashlee. Every time I hear this song I recognize how it will speak to people all over the world. Love is as universal as loss.”

The soulful slice of southern soul, which officially drops on Friday, is the latest preview of Daniel’s upcoming sophomore album Been Here Before. Arriving July 16, the followup to his debut Things I Don’t See takes a 12-step journey filled with depth and emotional consequence. In the fall of 2020, Daniel relocated back to his birth state of North Carolina, setting up shop at the sprawling Echo Mountain Studios, with its epic floor-to-ceiling Blue Ridge views housing his Southern crew. Joining the full-throated examination of life were the rhythm section of Western Carolina favorites Andrew Scotchie & The River Rats and Matrimony singer Hardee, who adds a Dolly Parton resonance to My Oh My.

Those who know Daniel know that the road is his favorite home away from home. Whether it’s Austin, Oklahoma, Raleigh, Chicago, Maine, Brooklyn, Tarboro, Nashville, Costa Rica or the United Kingdom, it’s a community that bands together for an evening of being, living in the moment, dancing, singing, drinking, thinking, it’s a cathartic feeling. With a touring resume that includes everything from SXSW and Mountain Jam, Daniel will continue his pace of 100+ shows a year (which remained strong in 2020 with nearly 50 livestreams). To celebrate the album release, he’ll play N.Y.C. and update New York in late August, an extensive run-of-shows in the Carolinas, several shows during AmericanaFest in September and a U.K. tour next January.
