Late-Night TV Music (Get Up & Go Edition) | Jan. 4, 2021

MGK multi-tasks, making Burna Boy, Maren Morris & more look lazy in the process.

And we’re back! Well, more or less. If I’m being honest, I’m not running at full speed these days. Not even close. Basically, my get up and go still hasn’t come back from holidays, y’know?

Thankfully, the Late-Night TV Music scene is much more motivated, with all the chat shows back up and running. And speaking of motivation, nobody got more done on Monday night than Machine Gun Kelly. The oft-maligned artist performed an impressive medley of three songs — Drunk Face, All I Know and Bloody Valentine — on Jimmy Kimmel Live. MGK is even more motivated than the Kimmel folks themselves, who have yet to post the official video of the segment. So you’ll have to make do with the bootleg version below, though I presume it won’t be around for long. But bottom line: Everybody else seems kind of lazy after that performance. Let’s run it down, shall we?

• Burna Boy got a little high for his rendition of Way Too Big on Late Night With Seth Meyers;

• Maren Morris scolded us all with her self-proclaimed ‘protest anthem’ Better Than We Found It on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert;

• Sturgill Simpson stubbornly continued to hawk his latest acoustic album with a bluegrass take of Life of Sin on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon;

• and Ingrid Andress showed off her strong pants game while crooning Lady Like on The Late Late Show With James Corden. I may be sorely lacking in ambition, but I tell you this: If I knew where to get trousers like that, I’d get up and go right now.
