Late-Night TV Music (Playing Catchup Edition) | Sept. 8, 2020

Get back up to speed with all the latest televised musical performance.

I spend a lot of time around here playing catchup. But even I’m not as far behind as Seth Meyers, it seems.

The Late Night host finally returned to his studio this week, and for the show’s first musical performance, pulled out an unused appearance by the mighty Bones UK, who taped their song Pretty Waste shortly before the show shut down back in March. Hey, better late than never, right? Thankfully, some other late-night shows aired newer performances. Like The Late Late Show With James Corden, which featured Sean Lennon and Charlotte Kemp Muhl performing the T. Rex classic Mambo Sun from the just-released Angelheaded Hipster tribute album. Or The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, which featured Big Sean’s theatrical video for his new single Harder Than My Demons. But since we started by playing catchup, let’s end there, with a slew of Play At Home clips from The Late Show With Stephen Colbert’s YouTube page. You’ve got The War and Treaty’s Five More Minutes, Bruce Hornsby and James Mercer’s My Resolve, Lewis Del Mar’s The Ceiling, Charlotte Day Wilson’s Take Care of You and Glass AnimalsHeat Waves. Now you’re all caught up. Unlike me.
