Late-Night TV Music (Best-Laid Plans Edition) | Aug. 17, 2020

Dylan McKenna, Sheryl Crow, Orville & Shania get the week off to a good start.

So much for best-laid plans. I got up early to try to get a head start on the day. But you know how it is: One small distraction leads to another, one email leads to a time-wasting conversatio — and the next thing you know, you’re right back where you started, playing catchup behind the 8-ball.

But it isn’t all bad. On the plus side, Monday’s late-night shows got the musical week off to a pretty solid start. You had Sheryl Crow, updating her still-timely 2012 southern rocker Woman In The White House for The Late Show With Stephen Colbert. You had Orville Peck and Shania Twain taking over an empty bar in their spangly duds to deliver their new duet Legends Never Die on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. And best of all, you had up-and-comer Declan McKenna unveiling his excellent retro-glam number Be An Astronaut on The Late Late Show With James Corden. More of that, please. Now, on with the day. Hope yours goes smoother than mine has so far.
