Late-Night TV Music (Slow & Steady Edition) | Aug. 3, 2020

Rufus is the only game in town, but Jacob Collier & Goat Rodeo take up the slack.

As I mentioned, it’s another slow summertime week here at the Late-Night TV Music desk — Monday’s only new performance came courtesy of the inimitable Rufus Wainwright, donning some shades to croon his latest swooning ballad Trouble in Paradise on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. But as I also mentioned, The Tonight Show With Stephen Colbert is taking up a bit of that slack by continuing to post a steady stream of performance clips even though they aren’t on the air. The latest: Jacob Collier’s Running Outta Love, with some gorgeous vocals from the usually forgettable Tori Kelly; and the all-star crew of classical-bluegrass hybrid Goat RodeoStuart Duncan, Edgar Meyer, Chris Thile, Aoife O’Donovan and Yo-Yo Ma — performing The Trappings. Welcome to Tuesday.
