Late-Night TV Music (4/20 Family Night Edition) | April 20, 2020

The Nelsons & Bocellis bring a father-and-son vibe to Monday's airwaves.

Monday was 4/20, of course. Apparently, it was also father-and-son night on late-night TV. Look no further than The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, which welcomed country’s most beloved stoner Willie Nelson — joined by sons Lukas and Micah — for a loose, playful rendition of his classic Hello Walls. The Nelsons weren’t the only musical clan playing together: Operatic tenor Andrea Bocelli and his son Matteo joined forces for Fall On Me on The Late Late Show With James Corden. A third family act would have truly sealed this deal, but sadly and somewhat strangely, Mumford & Sons were nowhere to be found. Of course, I have no proof that either family were, shall we say, in the weeds during their appearances (though I could certainly make an educated guess about the Nelsons). But I can tell you this: Both performances aired on CBS — and as any teenager knows, you can’t spell cannabis without CBS. I’ll leave the rest up to you. (Side note for CBS executives: Yes, I know it’s an amazing slogan. And yes, you can purchase it. Just send your seven-figure payment to me via PayPal and you’re good to go!)
