Grouplove make the most of their online performance. Alicia & Adam, not so much.

Well, that didn’t take long. Less than a week after most of the talk shows returned to active duty, I’m already started to get a little tired of watching artists strumming guitars in front of their phones. Thankfully, at least one act on Thursday night’s lineup raised the stakes: Grouplove, who teamed up via group chat on Jimmy Kimmel Live to perform their new single Deleter, complete with matching orange jumpsuits, artsy cinematography and even a giant mask! Kudos! Here’s hoping more artists follow their lead — and that fewer follow in the footsteps of the eternally annoying Alicia Keys, who started singing about hand-sanitizing while covering Flo Rida’s My House for The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. Sheesh. And finally, here’s (yes) another guy with another guitar, singing into another phone — namely, Adam Sandler, who unveiled his new  (and apparently untitled) Coronavirus ditty for Fallon. At least the Sandman’s number included a shout-out to his mailman and an admission that teaching his own kids math “can’t be good for America.” Fair enough — but at this point, it’s probably the least of their worries.
